Creating Events

Events are perfect for creating weather, personality mannerisms, and so much more. We are going to use an event to give the cat a little behavior of his own.

Click on Create, Event or click on the little clock icon on the toolbar. Give the event the name Kitty. We only want the descriptions for the event to be displayed when in the Living Room, so only highlight that from the list. Now we need to decide when the event should start. I think maybe the cat might have a little peculiar behavior when the television is turned on, so select the After Task check box and choose Turn on TV task. Now you need to decide how long the event should last. I think I would like it to last between 10 and 20 turns, so I will add those values to the boxes. You can choose different values if you prefer. We are not going to loop the event, so do not check the box Restart this event as soon as it finishes.

Now click on the Descriptions tab. In the first text box, What to display on event start, write something creative that a cat might perhaps do when the television is turned on.

As soon as the television pops on Fluffy is startled and scurries across the floor.

In the next text box type in a description of what the player sees when he types look. This will be added to the bottom of the room description.

The cat looks around curiously, unsure about the television.

In the next text box you can decide how many turns from the finish to display the next message. Enter the value 5 in the value box, then add another description.

The cat takes a moment to rub up against the furniture, reassuring himself that this is his home.

In the next text box enter the value 2 and also give it a description.

The cat slowly approaches the television, but suddenly doesn't seemed concerned anymore.

Now you are ready to give the event a finish. Add a description in the last text box.

Deciding that everything is as it should be, the cat goes about his normal business.

Now select Add Event, save and run.
